I was Following a Hunch I had About Some of the Difficulties I and Many Others have had about the Ministry of Samuel. And Then This Shows up. When it Can.

So I’m getting a hunch that Hannah in I Samuel isn’t quite the paragon of virtouis suffering she is made out to be in Prevailing Wisdom. I Samuel 1:2 clearly indicates that she had children but suggests that there was a problem with them (Whose mother was Eli’s Sons of Beliel anyway?) In fact as you read the scripture it becomes obvios that there is some sort of interdiction with Hannah and her womb that she can’t escape from and that POSSIBLY she is drinking heavily to numb the pain. So she is appealing to God innapropriately and Eli addresses her familiarly (Hmmm…) and she cries out about how she want’s a child. Then Eli pronounces peace upon her WITHOUT doing the necessary antecedent research (In the Church this was always called the surrepturous laying on of hands) and yes, Hannah get’s her child but everything goes to shit for Eli.
