I spoke into the air in the presumed presence of a microphone some week or two ago on the ludicrousness of the notion that a police officer was actually given adequate authority to EFFECTIVELY maintain peace and effect a level of obedience to the law adequate for a sustained civilization of ANY sort. The truth is a police officer OF NECESSITY arrogates to him or herself a capacity to TERRORIZE the neighborhood assigned to the attendant precinct and that in the main this occurs with the overtly tacit acquiescence of the precinct, or it better, if that precinct is going to have any measure of stability and peace necessary to persist for any length of time. Any police force that ACTUALLY constrained their officers to powers elucidated in their governing ordinances would be incapable of maintaining the necessary peace unless there were, and I’m pulling this out my experience in kindergarten, about one cop for every 9 citizens, absolutely untenable. I’m going into some uncomfortable territory here but I could not claim intellectual honesty if I didn’t, If that police force is to have any implementable check on it as well as any sustainably economical personnel pool, be it on the basis of size or expertise, which COSTS, believe me, it must cultivate, sustain and guard an essentially unauthorized vigilante cadre to help it. It is Prima Fascia but I’ll explicitly state it anyway, that police force must and WILL demand a FAR more lethal check on those vigilantes than ANY check said vigilantes have on the police, BUT, the vigilante check must be REAL and potentially career ending, and any honest cop will acknowledge and EMBRACE this. This preceding development is probably a far more explicit, orderly and complete presentation of what those assigned to law enforcement have previously acknowledged piecemeal before and is therefor essentially freestanding, but it DEMANDS the overt acknowledgement of the reality that EVERY cultural code, and every culture is of necessity both author and manumit of the crippled law it presents, IN THE SAME WAY except in absolute perfection G_d is both author and manumit of the l_w.
